The Routes

Beginning in 2025, the MNMP began coordinating survey efforts in collaboration with the North American Nightjar Survey. This international partnership brought together a number of nightjar survey efforts in Canada and United States to standardize data collection efforts and facilitate data sharing among North American nightjar monitoring programs. This development also enabled nightjar monitors in the United States to access NatureCounts, "an open data platform by Birds Canada that collects, interprets, and shares biodiversity data". Using NatureCounts, volunteers can submit their survey observations in the field using the NatureCounts mobile app or report their results in the browser.

To view and adopt a nightjar survey route in Maine, volunteers must first sign up for NatureCounts and register as a participant in the North American Nightjar Survey project on NatureCounts. After registering, you will be able to view a map of available survey routes in Maine and adopt a route of your own.
